A unique Central Research Laboratory to help medical fraternity was inaugurated on the premises of Katuri Medical College in Guntur on Saturday.Formally declaring it open, Director of Medical Education T. Ravi Raju said there are 14 Government medical colleges apart from 22 colleges in private sector in the State.

Formally declaring it open, Director of Medical Education T. Ravi Raju said there are 14 Government medical colleges apart from 22 colleges in private sector in the State.

He appreciated the efforts of the Katuri Medical College for setting up the laboratory at a cost of Rs.2 crore.

Associate Dean Polavarapu Ratnagiri, who had gained rich experience in United States, has joined KMC to manage the laboratory.

The KMC Central Research Lab obtained research grants and collaborations from countries like Canada and Texas, said college Executive Director Y. Rajeswara Rao.

The laboratory has some of the modern equipment like ETCR, which would allow the post-graduate students to conduct research in diseases specific to the region like flurosis in addition to diabetic foot, cardio vascular and re-emerging diseases like malaria, Dengue, HIV, avian flu, and TB, Dr. Ravi Raju explained. Organiser in Research in Dr. NTR Health University Asha attended the programme along with Dean K.S.N. Rao, and Hospital Superintendent Ravi Prasad.
